Filming Session 5 (Abdul)

Editing Session 6 (Abdul)- Colour Grading

Editing session 6 (Jamal) / Evidence of editing

In this editing session I checked over the footage and made sure everything was okay before rendering.
Upon inspection I saw that the performance shots weren't in sync with the music. This wasn't a major problem at first due to the fact that I knew what had been editing was a rough cut and didn't need to be perfect until our final edit.
So I exported the footage and showed the teacher in order to get feed back so we can make improvements.

Filming our outro (Jamal)

Filming our outro we used a shoulder rig and a chair. This was so we could track the characters without losing the stability of the camera.

We successfully filming this and was successful at making the movement of the camera stable.

Filming session 4 (Jamal)

Firstly we started off the day by buying a balloon from a card shop. The balloon alone filled up with helium came to five pounds, and we didn't get a black ribbon so we attempted to colour in the white ribbon we were given to match the rest of the video. Instead of colouring it in we chose to use Devon's shoe lace.

During the filming within the office, we were able to get one of the teachers to star in the video as a happy office worker. All in all the filming within the office went well, however one shot was ruined when we later discovered that it wasn't straight and it was slanted. this problem was quickly resolved when we discovered that we could rotate the frame so it would appear to look straighter. However in doing this we had to zoom in a little which cost us a slight dip in quality.

Editing session 2 Colour Grading (editing) pending .... (Jamal)

We are editing our music video so that our performance footage has more vibrant colours and feels warmer compared to the narrative. The narrative clips are going to be edited so that the colours are colder and less vibrant to overall emphasise the fact that the person in the narrative is depressed and unhappy due to his job.

Problem whilst filming the basketball sequence (Jamal)

Whilst we were filming a handheld shot for the basketball sequence, Abdul (One of the group) is seen in the background leaning on the tripod. This was a clumsy mistake that could have been avoided if we took the time to review what we had filmed, and checked over the footage. Maybe then we would have seen our mistake and could of re shot some shots that had blatant errors in them. Because of this mistake I need to cut out all the bits of footage that Abdul is seen in, which happens to be more than a 3rd of the handheld basketball footage.

Third Day Filming (Abdul)

Our third day filming was very productive once again. We got multiple amazing panning shots and generally shots where Jamal is performing. Unfortunately we weren't able to do much more so we came back another day to film fast moving action sequences of Jamal playing basketball and incorporated a good low angle foot shot. However we were unable to take pictures of the fourth day.

Update on smoke situation (Abdul)

Due to the difficulty of getting smoke in most of the scenes and the cost of the smoke which was £8 each for one good canister was very expensive. Moreover, having only one take to succeed in that shot did seem quite an expensive risk and one we wasn't willing to take. Even though the concept was really good, we decide to divert from it and instead only use balloons which was also quite expensive at £24 in total.

Blog 37: Reflection of progress

In reading the targets et out for me in the reflection i have taken into account that i need to manage my time more appropriately in order to secure a successful grade in my media course work.

I also need to use a wider range of technology when uploading my research/planning and productions posts. I feel as id i diverse my range of technology when posting blogs i can get a higher mark for the blogging side of the course work.

Second Day filiming (Abdul)

On day 2 we did 4 of our base-tracks on the tube and went all the way to Amersham which is outside London. We did all the performance base tracks with Devon. No TFL worker stopped us and we did manage to record successfully.

What went well was we did record a lot of different angles in the one setting creating multiple base-tracks. We did get many tracking shots which we hopefully plan to match cut together.

What needs to be improved is that we need to take shots of Abdul and Faris holding balloons. We were going to fill them up with helium and shoot on that day however the helium unfortunately leaked and ran out.

First Day Filming (Abdul)

Our first day way very productive and enjoyable but stressful. We woke up 5am in the morning to go film the time-lapse at Primrose Hill, as you can see from the first 2 videos. But, unfortunately the day was very cloudy and we didn't see the Sun come up. Also, our shoot was disrupted as we kept on getting people in the frame, not from a distance, but close up which also ruined it. Furthermore, as there were many dogs, they also got in the way of the shoot. This means we are going to have to return again to film.

Later on in the day, we went to Oxford Street. We filmed 3 other time-lapses of Jamal and Devon in the middle island of the street. It took a lot of attempts to make it good, but in the end, it did work out.

Andrew Goodwin

Research into London Eye location (Jamal)

In one of our shot ideas we were hoping to get an over the shoulder time lapse of the London going around whilst it is lit up. The screen shot is of the closing and opening times of the London eye rotations. I chose to look this up because in order to get the best shots possible for the idea that we had, the skyline has to be as bright as possible and the surrounding area has to be dark. So its best to leave it as late as possible to achieve our desired shot.

PITCH 17- SOCIAL MEDIA (FARIS)

Our Twitter Account

We have set up a twitter account that will be used for documenting our progress with our music video idea through taking pictures, videos and tweeting whenever we have an update

PITCH 16- RISK ASSESSMENT (JAMAL)

1.) Within the production of our music video there are a number of risks and dangers involved.
Whilst we are filming for the BMX scene there are risks involved, the actors might fall over and hurt them selves or hurt others if the actors make a mistake and cycle into them. One way we could reduce the risk of this happening is purely just being careful, if we take care in what we are doing, there is a lower chance of anything bad happening.

2.) Also during the Rugby scene there are also a number of risks involved. One example of a risk involved in filming the Rugby scene is that the sport is quite physical and if a larger person runs into someone, they could cause damage. One way we could reduce the chance of this happening is not play, or act too ruff and to be careful.

3.) There are a number of risks involved in the transportation of the equipment. One risk is that the equipment can be taken from us by force by someone trying to rob us. This is a risk due to the fact that the equipment being used is expensive which in turn makes it desirable and likely to be taken by force. A way we can limit this risk is by travelling in big groups and never transporting the equipment individually. Another risk involving the transportation of the equipment is that whilst in transit the equipment might get damaged. One way we can limit this from happening is by taken extra care when handling the equipment whilst its on the move.

4.) Within the party scene, we will not be drinking anything other than soft drink. This is because alcohol is damaging to health and is also illegal for under age consumption. Instead of alcoholic beverages we will be drinking Coca Cola. This ties into our aims for product placement within our music video.

5.) Within the filming of the boxing scene there are also risks involved. If our boxer (Ryan) punches the boxing bag incorrectly he might damage his wrists. One way we could limit the risks involved in this is by making sure he is using the right technique and his hands are padded and wrapped.
